NISD New Release of the ND1160 Series, an IO-Link Device Transceiver

Nisshinbo Micro Devices Inc.(NISD) released the ND1160 series, an IO-Link device transceiver.

Today's labor shortages are forcing manufacturing facilities to increase productivity, improve inefficient production processes, and monitor the operating status of manufacturing equipment. Under these circumstances, factory automation (FA) and in-plant IoT are gaining more attention due to trends such as Industry 4.0. IO-Link is regarded as one of the most important communications technologies and is a point-to-point communication protocol standardized by IEC 61131-9*1, an international standard. The ND1160 enables users to easily achieve IO-Link functions, which is essential for future sensor applications.

The ND1160 achieves small and thin packages, DFN3030-8-GG and WLCSP-12-ZA1, and contains the minimum functions required for IO-Link communication. This product enables high precision performance in combination with optimal external components. High-side, low-side, and push-pull operation can be set according to the logic state of the input pins, and the status of connected devices can be detected. It also supports the latest standard of 230.4 kbps. It has a large current capacity of 200 mA and a wide operating voltage range of 8.5 V to 36 V. In addition, the product has built-in overcurrent protection (< 500 mA), reverse current protection, thermal shutdown, and wake-up detection.

This product achieves the industry's smallest size*2 (WLCSP-12-ZA1) by incorporating the minimum functions required for IO-Link communication and eliminating LED drivers, LDOs, DC/DC switching regulators and dedicated DI/DO (digital input and output) pins. In addition, the free choice of external components makes this product flexible and easy to use, regardless of the type of sensors.
